NutraOrigin Krill Oil includes pure Antarctic krill oil, providing essential Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, and the antioxidant astaxanthin, with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.
Because it contains the same Omega-3 fatty acids as fish oil, it is reasonable to expect that krill oil will provide the same researched benefits as fish oil, supporting: healthy aging, joints and bones, cognitive function, vision, pregnancy, mood, heart, and weight.*
In addition, several studies have specifically been conducted on krill oil. The research summary below will give you a better understanding of how NutraOrigin Krill Oil delivers a broad array of health benefits.*
PMS and Painful Menstruation
A recent double-blind, randomized clinical trial researched the effects of krill oil on symptoms of PMS and painful menstruation. Seventy women of reproductive age were assigned to take 2 grams daily of either krill oil or fish oil. After 45 days, women in the krill oil group showed a statistically significant improvement in physical symptoms (such as breast tenderness, weight gain, abdominal discomfort, swelling, and bloating) and emotional symptoms (such as feeling overwhelmed, stressed, irritable, and blue).* Fish oil did not appear to be as effective. After 45 days, women in the fish oil group only experienced improvements in weight gain and abdominal discomfort. (2)
The researchers noted that brain phospholipids are particularly rich in DHA and speculate that the reason krill oil may relieve the emotional symptoms of PMS could be that it has a modulating effect on the brain chemicals that cause changes in emotions.*
Cholesterol, Triglycerides, and Blood Sugar
In a multi-center randomized study, researchers tracked the effect of krill oil on blood lipids, including total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (“bad” cholesterol), high-density lipoprotein (“good” cholesterol), and triglycerides. Compared to placebo, taking 1-3 grams of krill oil per day was found to be effective for maintaining cholesterol and triglyceride levels already within the healthy range.* Additionally, krill oil helped maintain healthy blood glucose (blood sugar) levels.* (3) This means that krill oil works in several ways to support cardiovascular health.*
Joint Health
Krill oil has also been studied for its effect on joint health. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 90 people were divided into two groups: half took 300 mg of krill oil daily while the other half took a placebo. After just seven days, those in the krill oil group experienced increased joint comfort, mobility, and function compared to placebo.*
How does it work? C-reactive protein (CRP) levels may provide a clue. CRP is a measurement of levels of inflammation in the body. A high CRP means inflammatory chemicals are present in high amounts, whereas a low CRP means inflammation is being kept in check. The study found that krill oil helped maintain CRP levels already within a healthy range.* (4)
